Jamshedpur, Jharkhand: On the occasion of the 147th birth anniversary of Albert Einstein, an astronomy discussion and telescope-based sky-watching session was organised on Saturday at Silpahari village under Palasbani Panchayat along NH-33, Jamshedpur. The programme was jointly organised by Bidhu Chandan Trust for Tribal Self-Empowerment and Breakthrough Science Society.

Students, young people, and residents from several nearby villages attended the event with great enthusiasm.

The programme began with an interactive session on the basics of astronomy led by Shubham Kumar Pati, a PhD research scholar from University of Delhi. Speaking in simple and engaging language, he introduced participants to fundamental ideas about the universe, planets, stars, and other celestial bodies.

Children were also taught about phenomena such as solar and lunar eclipses through games and demonstrations, making complex concepts easier to understand. He further spoke about the life and scientific contributions of Albert Einstein, including his groundbreaking work such as the Theory of Relativity. A poster exhibition highlighting Einstein’s life and achievements was also displayed during the event.

One of the highlights of the evening was the telescope-assisted sky-watching session conducted by members of Breakthrough Science Society. Participants were able to observe planets and stars visible in the night sky and learn more about them firsthand. The team also shared interesting facts about space and engaged children in conversations about common myths and superstitions related to astronomy.

Local organisers noted that initiatives like these play an important role in nurturing scientific curiosity and critical thinking among children and youth, particularly in rural and tribal areas. Such programmes, they said, help spark interest in science and encourage young minds to question and explore.

The event saw active participation from students, villagers, and social workers, making the gathering both inspiring and memorable. Among those present from Breakthrough Science Society were Dr. Tarun Kumar Mahto, Patit Kuila, Yudhishthir Mahto and Soni Sengupta. Members Prakash, Vikas Kumar, Shubham Kumar Pati and Pragya Singh, who are associated with VPRA Foundation, attended the programme as participants.

Others present included Father Alex, Arjun Soren, Sukhlal, Dr. Ratnesh Kumar, Manoj Kujur, Awang Konyak, Ankur Shashwat, Vikas Kumar and several representatives associated with Bidhu Chandan Trust for Tribal Self-Empowerment.
